Playing our way to Dubai

In one of the most successful initiatives in Australian backgammon in recent years, players of all standards are competing for the chance to go, all expenses paid, to the Dubai International in September.

Some of the usual suspects such as Malcolm Hutson, Steve Nelson, Ben Phillips and Steve Roberts got past the first round but, our game being what it is, a few of the very best including Mick Dyett have had to buy their way back into the event.

There’s a long way to go before we know who will be making the trip – although interest has been so great, perhaps others with join him or her on the plane.

Great work by Narelle McKenzie on the concept and also to Andy Liepins and Kevin Jessup for keeping the event running smoothly.
